Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 1

Live concert recording, on October 2nd, 2016 at IU Jacobs School of Music, Musical Arts Center.

It was my intent to record this concert in surround seeing as I was not playing in it I wanted to do something extra with this piece. Being a French Horn player Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 is possibly one of my favorite pieces to play and so I wanted to create an immersive experience for this recording, as if you were there at the concert. Above you can see the layout of the microphones as well as my documentation for the AES student competition I submitted with this recording. You will find the Program for the concert here, and you can find my AES documentation for your perusal here. I’d also like to note that this is an updated mix from what I originally submitted to AES in 2017 as I now don’t have access to the same space nor the same plugins.
